Coronavirus in Belgium: nearly 150 daily admissions to the hospital on average (+ 20%)

In total, 1,936 people are hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 410 patients treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated Tuesday morning. Between February 20 and 26, 2,394.4 new contaminations were detected on average per day, up 12% from the previous week.

Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 772,294 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed.

Still between February 20 and 26, 40,400 tests on average were carried out each day (+ 7%). The positivity rate, ie the proportion of positive tests compared to all the screenings carried out, reached 6.7%.

Over the same period, 22.7 people died on average per day from the virus (-36%), bringing the toll to 22,106 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

The reproduction rate (Rt) of the coronavirus is set at 1.13. When it is greater than 1, it means that the transmission of the virus is progressing.

In the meantime, 495,090 people have received a first injection of the vaccine, which is equivalent to 5.4% of the total population. A second dose was administered to 307,749 people, or 3.3% of the population.
