Coronavirus in Belgium – Review of the day: here are the figures

The daily average of new cases continues to increase according to provisional figures from the Institute of Public Health Sciensano.

Between January 5 and 11, there were an average of 2,085.7 new coronavirus infections per day, 24% more than during the previous seven-day period, according to data released Friday morning by the health institute public Sciensano.


The updated reproduction rate data is 0.94. The Rt is the number of people that a person can infect. It is calculated on the basis of hospitalizations. An outbreak should continue if the Rt is greater than ‘1’ and decrease if the Rt is less than ‘1’.


Nearly 44,3000 tests were performed daily during the last seven-day period (+ 61%), with a positivity rate of 5.3%.


Between January 8 and 14, there were 121.7 admissions on average per day (-7 %%). As of Thursday, there were 1,908 (-1%) hospitalized patients as a result of Covid-19 in Belgian hospitals, including 346 in intensive care.

Number of outings on January 14: 176


There are 52.9 deaths on average per day between January 5 and 11, which is 17.8% fewer than during the previous seven-day period.
