Coronavirus in Belgium – Review of the day: here are the figures

Between April 20 and 26, 3,310 new contaminations at Covid-19 were detected on average per day, according to data from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated this Thursday morning. This figure marks a stabilization (-8%) compared to the previous week.

These figures are delivered around 6 am, they are likely to change during the day with the arrival of more complete data for the day yesterday and the days preceding.


The reproduction rate remains below 1 and stands at 0,89. When it is less than 1, the epidemic is considered to be decreasing. The Rt is the number of people that a person can infect. It is calculated on the basis of hospitalizations. An outbreak should continue if the Rt is greater than ‘1’ and decrease if the Rt is less than ‘1’.


44.619,3 tests were carried out every day over the same period (+ 10%), for a positivity rate which decreased very slightly, to 8.6% (-1.1%).


More than three in ten adults (31.1%) received a first injection of a Covid-19 vaccine in Belgium. This represents 2.855.634 people. Among them, 779.103 received a second dose and thus benefit from complete vaccine protection, i.e. 8.5% of the adult population.
