Coronavirus in Belgium – Review of the day: less than 70 admissions per day to the hospital

Between May 30 and June 5, 1.315 new contaminations for Sars-CoV-2 were detected on average per day, down 25% from the previous week, according to figures from the Institute of Public Health Sciensano updated Wednesday morning.


The reproduction rate (Rt) is established at 0,86. When it is less than 1, the epidemic is considered to be decreasing. The Rt is the number of people that a person can infect. It is calculated on the basis of hospitalizations. An outbreak should continue if the Rt is greater than ‘1’ and decrease if the Rt is less than ‘1’.


Near 44.600 tests on average were also performed each day, for a positivity rate of 3,5%.


5,1 millions people received a first dose of the vaccine (56.3% of people over 18), 2,5 millions are fully vaccinated (28.1% of those over 18).


New hospitalizations: 67.1 per day between June 2 and March 8 (-21%)

Total: 888 beds are occupied at the hospital by Covid-19 patients, including 319 in intensive care.

Exits: 99.3 on average over the last 7 days


Between May 30 and June 5, 14 people died per day on average from the virus (+ 4.5%).
