Coronavirus infections continue to increase.
EBetween December 11 and 17, there were an average of 2,547 new infections per day, up 13% from the previous seven-day period, according to epidemiological data from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Monday morning .
Over the same period, the virus has killed on average 92 people per day, a stable figure compared to the previous reference period and bringing the toll to 18,626 deaths attributed to the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
With 179 new hospitalizations on average per day between December 14 and 20, hospital admissions declined very slightly (-2%) compared to the previous seven days.
On Sunday, 2,543 patients were hospitalized in Belgian hospitals due to Covid-19, including 544 in intensive care.
The virus’s reproduction rate, which measures the degree of contagiousness, was 0.97. When it displays a value greater than 1, the epidemic is considered to be getting stronger.
Since the start of the pandemic, 625,930 cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in Belgium.
