The number of new cases of Covid-19, but also those of daily deaths and hospital admissions, are all declining.
Lhe number of new cases of Covid-19 detected in Belgium continues to decrease, with an average of 1,657 people testing positive every day between 23 and 29 December. This figure has decreased by 30% compared to the previous calculation period.
The number of daily deaths is also declining, with an average of 71 deaths due to the coronavirus over the same period, a drop of nearly 20%. In total, Belgium has 19,581 deaths since the start of the epidemic.
Hospitals admitted 145 patients each day on average between December 26 and January 1 (-16% compared to the previous seven days). The total number of people hospitalized due to Covid-19, however, decreases less sharply, with 2,082 patients (-5%), including 485 people in intensive care (-2%).
The incidence, namely the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants, in 14 days currently stands at 245.9. The percentage of positive tests on all the tests carried out, that is to say the positivity rate, remains stable at 7.1% (-0.3%).
