Junior Team Canada was not spared from COVID-19, as a member of the team’s staff was diagnosed positive on Saturday.
The National Junior Team will still play its scheduled intra-team game in the evening in Red Deer, Alta., As part of the selection camp for the World Junior Hockey Championship.
“Upon receipt of this positive result this morning, our staff member immediately implemented all precautionary measures to avoid any risk of exposure to our players, coaches and support staff,” Hockey Canada said by way of release.
“The staff member who tested positive as well as a few colleagues who have been in close contact with this individual have been placed in quarantine at the team hotel in Red Deer. Tonight’s game between the Reds and Whites will take place as scheduled, as protocols have indicated that the health and safety of the athletes is not compromised. ”
The World Junior Hockey Championship is scheduled for December 25 to January 5, in Edmonton, Alberta.
