Covid-19: one death and 24 new cases of coronavirus recorded

Dakar, Sep 22 (APS) – The Ministry of Health and Prevention said on Wednesday it had identified 24 new Covid-19 contaminations and one death linked to this disease in the past 24 hours.

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, El Hadj Mamadou Ndiaye, out of 1,908 tests carried out during this period, 24 were positive, for a positivity rate of 1.26%.

The new infections recorded include two contact cases already followed by the health authorities and 22 resulting from community transmission, said Doctor El Hadj Mamadou Ndiaye, also Director of Prevention.

The Dakar region alone totals 13 community cases, against nine for the other regions, he added during the daily update devoted to the evolution of the coronavirus disease in Senegal.

Doctor Ndiaye also reports that 317 patients have been tested negative and declared cured during the last 24 hours, 11 serious cases being treated in the intensive care units.

One death has been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of people who have lost their lives to the disease to 1,849, he said.

Senegal has counted 73,692 positive cases of Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic on March 2, 2020, of which 70,672 have been declared cured.

The Covid-19 also caused 1,849 deaths. As a result, 1,170 patients are still under treatment.

The Ministry of Health and Social Action also reports that since the start of the vaccination campaign at the end of February, 1,229,531 people have received at least one dose of vaccine.
