The difficult economic and social situation in the catering sector following the crisis linked to the new coronavirus (covid-19) was at the center of a meeting, held recently in Casablanca, between the Executive Bureau of the Moroccan Catering Federation ( FMT) under the chairmanship of Mr. Mohamed Rahal Essoulami and the president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), Chakib Alj.
This meeting, which takes place as part of an ongoing effort by the FMT to support players in the sector, in particular during this economic and social situation marked by a stoppage of activity for more than 15 months due to the application of measures put in place by the government at the onset of covid-19, was an opportunity to convey the difficulties faced by these actors and to explore immediate solutions to limit the damage and offer the hope of a resumption of activity, said a press release from the Federation.
Thus, the FMT presented a note formulating the demands and aspirations of caterers, the most important of which consist in setting a date for resumption of activity, given the nature of the work of caterers which requires prior preparations and to find effective solutions to mitigate the effects of the crisis, such as the creation of a financing mechanism able to cover expenses and facilitate the resumption of activity, said the same source. It is also a question of accelerating the application of compensation for loss of employment due to the pandemic for the first 4 months of 2021 and the tax rebate relating to professional tax for the years 2020 and 2021, adds the communicated. In addition, the FMT requests the extension of the deadline for canceling the penalties decided by the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) and the suspension of legal proceedings related to rental costs.
Quoted in the press release, Mr. Alj praised the efforts made by the president of the FMT, expressing his determination to continue the defense of this sector and to work in favor of its support so that it can regain its momentum of activity.
This meeting was an opportunity for the Federation to praise the action taken by the Patronage to support the catering sector.
