COVID-19: Vigilance must remain in place (WHO)

Countries where the number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus is decreasing must remain “vigilant”, warned an official of the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Even if the number of cases is decreasing, all countries must remain vigilant. You have heard it before, but we really have to stress it again. Do not let your guard down,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, technical manager of the program. WHO health emergency, during a virtual briefing.

“It’s good to see the measures take effect and transmission diminish. But now is not the time to let our guard down. It is even time to amplify that,” she added. Infection cases worldwide have surpassed 61 million, with the death toll of 1.4 million, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

“What we do not want to see are situations where we go from a state of so-called confinement to control the virus to a state of so-called confinement,” said Van Kerkhove.
