Already present in various European countries, VIU has revolutionized the Swiss eyewear market and wishes to continue strengthening its international presence.
Credit Suisse Entrepreneur Capital SA, the investment vehicle of Credit Suisse in Switzerland, has invested in the Zurich-based company VIU Ventures SA (VIU). Already present in various European countries, VIU has revolutionized the Swiss eyewear market and wishes to continue strengthening its international presence.
The investment of CHF 3 million was made as part of a financing round in which existing VIU shareholders and new investors participated. VIU will use this capital to pursue its growth strategy, in particular to strengthen and develop its European distribution network.
The company, founded in 2013, has set itself the goal of offering stylish and quality eyewear at moderate prices, and has thus established itself on the market as a renowned player. The collections are designed in Switzerland. Each pair of glasses is made in a process involving up to 80 manual work steps at traditional manufacturers in Italy or Japan. VIU markets its products exclusively online and through its own branch network. Controlling the entire value creation chain – from design through production to sales – avoids additional costs associated with intermediaries. It is for this reason in particular that the company is able to offer high quality products at relatively advantageous prices.
“With this investment, we are supporting innovative Swiss entrepreneurship and enabling VIU to continue and develop its business,” commented Elios Elsener, CEO of Credit Suisse Entrepreneur Capital SA. “Its development so far is impressive and we see great potential for the success of the business, which relies both on digital channels as well as on stationary commerce.”
