Switzerland eyes EU to fight forest fires
The Federal Council is considering joining the European Civil Protection Mechanism. As experts support her, political pressure is mounting.

The Gironde paid a heavy price for the forest fires in July (here the region of the Dune du Pilat). According to the Confederation, Switzerland is also not immune to a large-scale fire.

The collusion of dates is comical to say the least. On January 26, the Confederation published a report explaining that “Switzerland does not need to acquire water bomber planes against fires of the “canadair” type. Less than a week later, Ticino called on two Italian “canadairs” to fight a forest fire in a valley that was difficult to access.
