Cross-country skiing: Cologna 24th over 15 km classic in Kuusamo – rts.ch

Dario Cologna finished 24th in an event won by Finland’s Iivo Niskanen ahead of Russians Alexey Chervotkin and Alexander Bolshunov, breaking one of his sticks in the final third of the race.

Having just recovered from a knee injury suffered at the end of October, Dario Cologna conceded 1’31”2 to the winner. The four-time Olympic champion was nevertheless already outside the top 20 after 5 km. He only decided at the last moment to start his final World Cup season at Kuusamo, where he had not competed in the sprint on Friday.

Best Swiss, Dario Cologna is even the only Swiss cross-country skier to have been able to register points in a race disputed by freezing cold (-16 °). The Valaisan Candide Pralong thus lost more than 2’40 ” on the winner, settling for a 59th place.
