Crutchlow (Yamaha): Quartararo-Message am Dashboard / MotoGP

After finishing 13th, Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow reveals the content of a very special message during the Australian MotoGP race, showing the problems at Yamaha and giving advice to works rider Fabio Quartararo.

Cal Crutchlow still crossed the finish line in 13th after a botched first lap at Phillip Island. After the race, the Brit not only thought about his race, but also about the situation of Yamaha and Fabio Quartararo in the championship fight against Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati).

“Our bike isn’t fast enough to overtake before Turn 1 at Phillip Island. I should have been a lot quicker,” Crutchlow clarified. “But I was otherwise quite happy with the bike. It was the first race where I didn’t break a sweat here – I felt pretty good on the bike.”

But Cal emphasized frankly: “Yamaha has problems. Okay, Darryn Binder had a good result on Sunday because he used the hard tire and was behind me. He was quite quick at the end because he drove a lot better than at the beginning – with a lot more cornering speed, you could see that in the data.”

“Fabio’s failure is of course a pity, but he has to take risks, things like that can happen. He drove against the best drivers in the world.” Crutchlow then revealed: “They sent me a message on the dashboard that Fabio was behind me. I didn’t see the message but knew he had to be there somewhere because he went a long way. I then looked back in one of the hairpins and saw him – then he came by too. »

“Unfortunately, when Fabio overtook Darryn, he didn’t clear the way for me, so I might have gotten through,” joked the 36-year-old. «Fabio has a strong head, he could have been up front until the end of the race, but he made a mistake and had to pay for it. His bike was slow on the straight but he made up a lot in the corners. He has to try to win again in Malaysia now, that’s all he can do.”
