ST. GEORGE / O. Johann Oblinger and Heinrich Schrems, two veterans of the contemporary culture of the Innviertel, have been awarded the Silver Culture Medal of the State of Upper Austria by Governor Thomas Stelzer.
The two founders of the “Treffpunkt Georgia” cultural association in St. Georgen near Obernberg were honored for their many years of cultural work in the Innviertel. Oblinger was chairman and honorary managing director of the association, Schrems made indispensable contributions as a “cultural worker” and board member.
Time culture in the country
In 1980, experimental jazz, innovative theater and political cabaret still had a difficult time in the region. Nevertheless (as the club magazine was named for for many years) the team at “Treffpunkt Georgia” worked for contemporary culture in the country and in the tavern. The regional and national audience – many came from neighboring Bavaria – thanked them with numerous visits to the events.
