Current RKI figures on the coronavirus: Active cases drop to 16,400 – guide

The number of active cases is falling again!

The health authorities in Germany reported 1256 new corona infections within one day. An estimated 1,500 people have recovered within the past 24 hours.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced this on its website on Wednesday morning (data status 2.9., 0 a.m.).

▶︎ Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, at least 244 855 people in Germany have been proven to be infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

According to the RKI, the number of deaths in connection with a corona infection is 9313. Eleven more deaths have been reported since the previous day. According to RKI estimates, around 219,100 people had survived the infection by Wednesday morning.

The number of active cases in Germany is around 16,400.

The R-value

According to RKI estimates in Germany, the number of reproductions, or R value for short, was 0.80 (previous day: 0.84), according to a statement on Wednesday evening. This means that one infected person infects less than one other person on average. The R-value depicts the infection rate about one and a half weeks beforehand.

In addition, the RKI gives a so-called seven-day R in its current situation report. The value relates to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 0.91 (previous day: 0.89). It shows the infection process from eight to 16 days ago.

How the counties comply with the limit values

In order to be able to react in good time to new spreads, the federal and state governments have set a corona upper limit for new infections. It is 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

How common is Corona worldwide?

The private Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA) determines the worldwide number of corona cases. If you compare the German numbers of the Johns Hopkins University with those of the RKI, the RKI seems to be lagging behind in recording new corona cases. Reason: Both institutions determine the number of cases in different ways.

This is how the RKI works

As an independent federal authority for infectious diseases, the Robert Koch Institute is currently determining all of our lives with its numbers, examinations and the knowledge gained from them.

People with 90 different professions from 50 nations work there. Of the 1296 employees, 1224 are in Berlin and 72 in the branch in Wernigerode. The Berlin 24/7 situation center alone has 150 employees.
