I’m an absolute fan of Github Copilot when it comes to developing. It saves me a lot of time and it’s really well integrated into my Visual Studio Code. That said, it’s still a bit lacking on the code generation side that we could have with a ChatGPT for example.
Fortunately, here comes Cursor, a new IDE that incorporates AI to help you write code faster and smarter. You will see, it is very impressive. I’ll tell you why.
Imagine you’re working on a project and you have a bunch of issues to fix, bugs to fix, and you’d like to add some new features. Like any normal person, you start writing code, but as you go along you realize that it would be so much easier if you had someone (or something) smarter and more experienced to help you.

- Chat: Chat with a ChatGPT-like bot that sees your current file.
- Editing: Have the AI modify a block of code, and see an online diff of the changes.
- Debugging: Hover over linter errors to correct them automatically.
- Code writing: Generate entire chunks of code from short descriptions
And to top it off, the Cursor developers have big ambitions for the future. They want it to become the most productive development environment in the world using LLMs (Large Scale Language Models).
We would then have features such as the automatic repair of your dev repository, the automatic correction of errors or the integration of documentation written by the AI directly into the user interface.
As science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke said: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. And that’s exactly what Cursor feels like.
