CUSAT| Kochi University of Science and Technology with menstrual leave; This is the first time among the universities in Kerala

Kochi: Kochi University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is all set to grant menstrual leave to female students. Menstrual leave is being given for the first time in Kerala. It has been decided to provide an additional 2% holiday allowance in each semester. At present only those who have 75% attendance can write the semester exam. If the attendance is less than this, an application to the Vice-Chancellor and production of a medical certificate is usually done.

However, medical certificate is not required for menstrual leave, just application is enough. Last month, MG University had decided to grant 60 days maternity leave to female students. This is the first time in Kerala that a university is giving maternity leave to female students. 60 days maternity leave is granted to female students who have completed 18 years of age in degree, PG, integrated and professional courses (non-technical) in various departments and affiliated colleges of the university.

This leave can be taken before or after delivery. The period of leave shall be calculated inclusive of public holidays and ordinary holidays. 14 days leave will be allowed in case of abortion, miscarriage, tubectomy etc. Leave will be allowed only for first or second pregnancy. Leave can be granted to those who produce a certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner.

After vacation can continue studies in current semester with own batch. 75% attendance is required to appear for the exam in a semester of 90 working days. Many students studying for PG were unable to write the exam due to absenteeism during pregnancy and childbirth. In this way many people were unable to complete the course. A new decision was taken after noticing this.
