Game news Cyberpunk 2077: the PS5 / Xbox Series patch will arrive in the second half of 2021
Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt, spoke in a video to reflect on the chaotic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and the efforts made to ensure that everyone can enjoy it “regardless of the platform” . A new roadmap has been shared.
After deploying three corrective patches last month, CD Projekt announces that the first big update of Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive within ten days. It will be followed by another update “even more important” in the coming weeks. Since the developers’ priority is to correct bugs and crashes on all platforms, the initial schedule is turned upside down: Free DLC will arrive a little later than expected, and the free update to fully exploit the capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series is scheduled for the second half of 2021. “Our plans to evolve Cyberpunk in the long term have not changed”, indique Marcin Iwiński. Des paid extensions and one multiplayer mode are also in the program. In FAQ, CD Projekt also ensures that the working conditions of its employees are taken into account. “Avoiding the crunch of all our future projects is our top priority”, can we read.
Marcin Iwiński also looks back on the deplorable technical state of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and takes responsibility for this rushed release. He explains that the developers have “worked on the quality of consoles until the last moment”, which explains the late sending of test keys to the press (December 8, two days before the game’s release).
Despite good reviews on PC, the console version of Cyberpunk 2077 does not reach the level of quality that we would have liked. The management team and I are sincerely sorry and take public responsibility for it here. I ask you not to put the blame on our teams. They are all incredibly talented and hardworking. The board and I make the final decisions, and it was our choice to release the game (…) We made it difficult for ourselves by first wanting the game to be epic on PC, and then tweaking it on console. , especially the older generation (…) Events proved that we had underestimated the task (…) The main culprit was constantly having to improve our in-game streaming system for older generation consoles. Streaming takes care of “feeding” the engine with what is shown on screen, as well as the mechanics of the game. Given the city is condensed and console disc bandwidth limited, this was a constant challenge. . Every modification or improvement had to be tested and, obviously, our testing did not show most of the issues you encountered in the game.
Regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s return to PlayStation Store, from where it was withdrawn from sale at the end of December, CD Projekt indicates that it is working with Sony on this subject for a return “as soon as possible”. Finally, the Polish firm announces that the exceptional refund policy “progressing as planned” and that the first wave of refunds has just been sent.
