Dark Huntor: An arrest followed by a seizure of $ 31.6 million

During the international operation Dark Huntor, law enforcement arrested 150 members of the criminal group and seized cash and cryptocurrency valued at over $ 31.6 million.

Details of the operation

The US Department of Justice said that Operation Dark Huntor involved American, Australian and European law enforcement agencies specializing in the fight against drugs and the sale of illegal products on the darknet. The operation was coordinated by Europol and Eurojust.

In its statement, the US Department of Justice said 150 suspects were arrested during the operation for drug trafficking via darknet, as well as for the illegal sale of goods and services in Australia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The closure of darknet sites

The Office noted that, in support of Operation Dark Huntor, Italian authorities shut down the darknet sites Deepsea and Berlusconi, which displayed more than 40,000 advertisements for the sale of illegal products. Four site administrators were arrested. During the search, they seized cryptocurrency in the amount of 3.6 million euros.

In August, police in the Australian state of Victoria confiscated $ 6 million worth of cryptocurrency linked to drug trafficking, and a month earlier, London police had confiscated cryptocurrency worth of $ 180 million. Previously, it was reported that US authorities had auctioned bitcoins confiscated from criminals worth $ 300,000.

Law enforcement agencies in all countries strictly monitor online financial transactions. However, this is still not enough to prevent criminal acts possible.

I like cryptocurrency. I’ve been studying it for several years now, but also investing in it and working in this field. In addition, I do articles on the subject where I try to be crisp!
