This Tuesday, Deportivo Independiente Medellín confirmed David González as the new coach of the professional team. The former goalkeeper and power idol will get his first chance as a professional coach.

González, who is one of the institution’s top leaders, was in its most glorious moments, such as the 2002 title, the 2003 Copa Libertadores, the star of 2004 against Nacional, the last league star, in 2016 and the 2019 Colombia Cup. With four titles, he is the most successful player in DIM history.

“For this reason, the club decided to withdraw the number 22 number, the one that always characterized González with the Powerful diver, who today returns to the red house, his house, no longer to wear the 22, but to put on the DT one and transmit to the players that knowledge, work, perseverance and mysticism that led him to be one of the greatest idols of Deportivo Independiente Medellín,” the club highlighted.

David González will be accompanied in his coaching staff by Alexánder Becerra, as his first assistant and Christian Morales as second technical assistant, they will be joined by David Zuleta as physical trainer and Dídier Muñoz as goalkeeping coach.

The official presentation of the strategist will be this Wednesday, at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, before the media. Medellín has the challenge in this second semester in League II-2022, debuting in Ibagué against Deportes Tolima and in the Colombia Cup, where they will face Junior de Barranquilla in the quarterfinals.
