Dakar, Jul 22 (APS) – Former liberal MP Awa Diop died in Dakar on Wednesday at the age of 73, multiple media sources report.

On February 2, 1975, she joined the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), founded in 1974 by Abdoulaye Wade, who was to lead Senegal from 2000 to 2012.
At the PDS, a large opposition formation under the socialist regime, she stood out for her ” militancy ” and ” pugnacity ”, which earned her two arrests, in 1988 and 1993 for ” unauthorized demonstrations ”.
Member of the Steering Committee, the supreme body of the PDS, Secretary General of Liberal Women in Rufisque, Deputy Secretary General then Secretary General of Women of the Dakar region, National President of Liberal Women, Awa Diop was elected MP for the first time in 1993.
Secretary elected to the office of the National Assembly during the 8th legislature, she occupies the post of Second Quaestor of the 10th and 11th legislature.
On October 16, 2006, she was appointed Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and retained her post during the cabinet reshuffle of February 27, 2007.
In March 2012, Me Abdoulaye Wade lost power, but Awa Diop was elected deputy on the national list of the PDS in the legislative elections of July 2012.
