Democracy confiscated? – Alain’s Tranchant opinion

Pantalonnades and palinodies, boasting and jabbering, nothing has been spared the French people for a year.

In just a few days, the power has displayed its know-how, and it is immense! The French were first treated to the AstraZeneca soap opera, stop and go vaccination, then to the real-false confinement of Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France, and finally to the incredible episode of the publication of a derogatory travel certificate so technocratic and indigestible that it was deleted within 24 hours. We must believe that, in the highest spheres of power, no one had the idea to read it …

And, as the addition was not strong enough, now it is a question of confiscating democracy by postponing to a better time the departmental and regional elections of June 13 and 20, 2021. By breaking the thermometer, it is good known that one avoids knowing the patient’s temperature …

The state of health emergency, which has already put a large number of our fundamental freedoms in parentheses, cannot justify a new emergency regime postponing to Greek calendars local elections that the government is obviously considering without pleasure, after its bitter failure in the municipal elections of March 2020. In short, the French would have the right to go to work, to carry their provisions in the markets and supermarkets, but they would be deprived of the right to elect their departmental councils and regional.

For all those who have made the choice of democracy and the Republic, the time has come to come out of the torpor that has befallen the country, and to demand loud and clear that the elections for the month of next june.

Obviously, the head of state is obsessed with the renewal of his mandate in a year, and he would gladly dispense with intermediate polls. Proof, if it were necessary, of the vital necessity for our democracy to “rebuild the Republic to remake France”. The best interests of the nation demand that we reform our institutions, so that the President of the Republic is only concerned with the good of France and that he no longer has to worry about his re-election. Very clearly, we have to go back to the seven-year term, and establish the single mandate.
