Dempsey Bryk plays a donjuanesque prince in the “Willow” series, from November 30, 2022 on Disney+. The 26-year-old Canadian actor was able to perform his own stunts in this sequel to the 1988 fantasy film.

Did you know the universe of “Willow” before landing your role in this series?

I only saw the original film during the auditions for my role. I discovered this universe by reading the scripts of the episodes and I was totally thrilled. It’s reassuring for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, although I loved the movie!

Did you find any commonalities with your character?

Airk has long hair, like me, ha ha! He is a guy who likes to laugh, very sincere and who can be serious at times and nice. I don’t know if I can say that I look like him, but in any case, I appreciate these attributes in someone. I like innocence and sincere kindness in people.

What did you learn in the training camp the actors attended?

To fight, wield a sword, ride a horse or lift weights. Our coach took six months to teach me how to perform a deadlift correctly! It was a childhood dream to be able to perform my own stunts thanks to the help of the brilliant stunt team.

You still had an advantage in terms of fitness…

It’s true. I have been boxing since the age of 10. I play a boxer in my new film, “The Fight Machine”, which means a lot to me. It was nice to be able to throw a few punches while filming.

After ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘The Rings of Power’, why should viewers watch another fantasy series?

In line with the film, “Willow” occupies a unique space in fantasy. The series combines lightness and humor with action, adventure and darkness. And then the story also tells of the entry into adulthood. Our screenwriter was particularly inspired by John Hughes’ 80s teen movies.
