Thiruvananthapuram: The office of Water Resources Minister Roshi August said it was not aware of an order allowing Tamil Nadu to cut down trees ahead of the strengthening of the Baby Dam at Mullaperiyar. Earlier, Forest Minister AK Sasindran had said that his and the Chief Minister’s offices were not aware of this.
Sasindran said that the CM’s office came to know about this when it received the letter from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Following this, the water resources department also took up the issue.
Meanwhile, KPCC president K Sudhakaran alleged that the Home Department had given permission to cut down the trees. He also said that he had betrayed the interests of Kerala.
Former KPCC president VM Sudheeran has criticized the government for giving permission to cut down trees. This shows the irresponsibility of the government. Sudheeran also demanded that the people should be relieved of their worries about the dam.
