Deschamps’ “secret” list for the World Cup

Before revealing his list of 23 (or even 26) players for the World Cup in early November, Didier Deschamps will have to communicate to Fifa a first list before October 21.

The France team did not reassure, Sunday, for its last match before the World Cup in Qatar. Traveling to Denmark, which the Blues will find in Qatar for their second match in Group B, Didier Deschamps’ men lost 2-0, delivering a sluggish performance. The world champions certainly had to deal with a fortnight’s absence from Copenhagen, but some players have undoubtedly missed their chance to be on the trip to Doha, like Dayot Upamecano or Eduardo Camavinga.

Didier Deschamps still has a month and a half to determine the list for Qatar and decide first if they will be 23, 24, 25 or 26 as now authorized by Fifa. If the coaches have until November 14 at 7 p.m. to communicate their final selection, the Bayonnais should announce his list between November 7 and 13, the date being under discussion with TF1, where the 98 world champion will call out the names of the lucky ones.

The tricolor coach, on the other hand, has only one month left to communicate a pre-list to FIFA. The 32 participating teams must indeed submit before October 21 a first list composed of 35 to 55 players (including at least four goalkeepers) and all the players finally selected for the Qatari World Cup must come from this first list. These pre-selections will not be made public and no changes can be made after the fateful date except in exceptional circumstances. Note that another list of 70 officials will also have to be sent.
