For his part, Professor Arnon Wiesnetzer, director of the department of gynecology at a hospital, said that in the past year, we have not seen cases of influenza among pregnant women or during childbirth. We’re seeing more and more pregnant women with influenza… It’s definitely a big challenge dealing with a woman who has a fever at childbirth.”
“This is especially so when you don’t know if it’s the coronavirus or the flu, so you refer to them the same. Most of the symptoms are respiratory,” he explained.
Professor Wiesnetzer said that the Israeli patient did not have any severe or unusual symptoms.
He added that she was diagnosed with influenza and the Corona virus upon her arrival, and continued: “Both tests came positive.. the disease is the same; it causes difficulty breathing because both viruses attack the upper respiratory tract.”
Israel’s Health Ministry said it was studying the case to determine whether the combination of infection could cause more serious illness.
But so far the woman has responded well to doctors and has experienced only mild symptoms.
