No boycott of the Olympics for elected Vaudois, Omicron takes care of it
The city officials of the Olympic capital will not make the trip to Beijing. The Canton should only send State Councilor Philippe Leuba, before the Games.
Three weeks before the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the question of a political boycott is supplanted by the virulent variant Omicron. With the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on their territory, the Canton of Vaud and the City of Lausanne are invited to each Olympiad. They could hardly dodge the question.
Usually, the Vaud delegation is made up of ministers Pascal Broulis and Philippe Leuba, accompanied by one or two department heads, while Lausanne is represented by its syndic and the sports manager. But this year, there will be nobody, except perhaps Philippe Leuba, whose displacement is “envisaged” to present a report. The local authorities assure that these defections are due to health reasons and not political.
