Indispensable for breakfast, cereals are however not so good for health according to the survey of 60 million consumers. The magazine explains to us what healthy and inexpensive muesli to replace them with to start the day off right, revealing the best of the supermarket.

We still often hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, on the morning table, one thing is clear: you fill up on sugar and fat – to the detriment of protein – and this, without necessarily eating enough to be satisfied until lunch. Super-sweetened fruit juices, high-calorie pastries, too-sweet industrial brioche, poor quality semi-industrial bread or even sugar-packed cereals, while the World Health Organization recommends limiting sugar consumption to 50g per day, pre-packaged products explode the daily dose ingested. One of the worst in this category? Cereals, whose glycemic load (taking into account both the glycemic index and the carbohydrate content) is very high for the majority of products.

This is why the magazine 60 million consumers analyzed 12 cereal references and 12 mueslis in search of a healthy package to put on the breakfast table. It turns out that it is a muesli that ranks at the top of the list and establishes itself as the best muesli for health to eat in the morning.

Cereals and mueslis: the verdict of 60 million consumers

All cereals screened have high glycemic loads (on average 30). They therefore cause a spike in blood sugar which makes us store sugar in the form of fat and promotes diabetes. And to make matters worse, a bowl of cereal provides an average of 16 g of sugar, i.e. a third of the recommended intake himself. The conclusions of the survey are clear: it is better to consume muesli in the morning because muesli has a lower glycemic load (less than 20), in addition to being rich in fiber which is good for intestinal transit, which regulates blood sugar and cholesterol, and which help prevent the appearance of certain cancers. But here again, not all mueslis are created equal and all the references analyzed are too sweet, with the exception of 2, Bjorg’s oat flakes and the Gerblé fruit muesli who earns his place best muesli according to the magazine. Sold at a price of only 3.29 euros at Carrefour, it is a healthy alternative to morning cereals.

What’s in the best muesli to eat in the morning?

Rated 18/20 by 60 million consumers and displaying a Nutri score A, Gerblé’s fruit muesli has a lower glycemic load than Bjorg’s rolled oats and contains even more fiber than them. Not too sweet or too salty, it’s a muesli with no added sugar that mixes oat, barley and wheat flakes, topped with dried fruit (grape, apple, hazelnut, date, banana and almond). Without dyes or preservatives, it is ideal for refueling in the morning and avoiding cravings during the morning, while avoiding consuming too much sugar when you wake up.
