Finally Street Parade again! After a two-year break due to corona, the popular Zurich event will take place again in its old form on Saturday, August 13th – to the great delight of DJ Tatana (45), who will personally heat up the party people at the Love Mobile Daytona. “For me, Street Parade is always like Christmas,” says Tatana to Blick.
Tatana Sterba, as the native Czech is called by her full name, is considered the “Queen of the Street Parade”. She has been part of the techno parade since 1994, and no other name is as closely associated with the major Zurich event as DJ Tatana. She was the first woman to lead her own float in the Street Parade and produced the official anthem three times. Tatana: “The occasion means a lot to me – always has and still does. The Street Parade is a demonstration for love, tolerance, freedom. Values that we urgently need, especially in these times, »says the mother of two sons. “Never before has the Street Parade needed it like it does now.”
Tatana is certain that it is the connection between the people, the city and the music that creates the magic of the parade: «Zurich is a beautiful city, we have the lake, the mountains in the background, and you can see all of that in the parade. In addition, there is a peaceful and happy party people, the sound that sweeps everyone away – this is how this incomparable atmosphere is created.»
No more lugging around a record case
Since her first street parade in the 1990s, however, a lot has changed, the musician explains: “Back then, the occasion was family, everyone knew each other and there were far fewer DJs,” she says. «Thanks to modern technology, almost anyone can now DJ. In the past, you had to do everything analog, learn how to DJ with vinyl records and then spend up to a day a week in the record store to find new songs,” explains Tatana. “I always had a huge stack that I had to listen to,” she laughs. “When everything went digital, I first had to get used to it. But today I’m glad that I no longer have to lug a heavy record case to my performances.”

Tatana’s party calendar is also full at this year’s Street Parade and two Blick readers can be there exclusively and experience the day with the star DJane: First Tatana heats up the party people on the Daytona Love Mobile, then follows the parade an after party and finally a performance in Sector 11 – in the hall where the legendary Zurich techno club Oxa operated until 2013. “I’m particularly looking forward to this performance,” says Tatana. «It will be the last evening in this building, after that it will be demolished. For me, this will be one of my most emotional performances to date. Because I started my music career at the Oxa, »says Tatana. “It’s a particularly important part of my past. That’s why it’s time for me to say goodbye on this street parade evening.”
DJ Tatana, who is currently working on several collaborations with well-known Swiss artists, is not parting with music for a long time: DJing is still my passion today. As long as it stays that way, I’ll keep doing it.”
