Do you have enough free time?

While lack of free time can be a problem for mental health, too much can be a source of boredom and comfort. Finding a happy medium undoubtedly contributes to happiness.

How to quantify the time necessary for leisure?

A recent American study investigated sufficient free time to improve well-being and mental health. By analyzing data from nearly 22,000 Americans about their time use and level of happiness for one year, in addition to data from a national study on the resting habits of about 14,000 working people over 15 years, everything by combining them with a fictitious life model on more than 6,000 participants, the researchers highlighted the sufficient amount of free time to be happy.

Between 2 and 5 hours of free time per day

This groundbreaking study has shown that to be happy we need an average of 2 to 5 hours of free time per day. Having whole days free is therefore not a source of happiness, quite the contrary for some.

The ideal is therefore to devote at least 2 hours a day to activities that allow you to take care of yourself. It can be sports, relaxation, or socialization. The goal is to take full ownership, share moments with others and improve the feeling of competence by giving life and actions a meaning and a goal.
