McKennie previously served as a Juventus loan player at the start of the 2020/2021 season. He borrowed from Schalke 04 with a season duration, plus a permanent purchase option.
The 22-year-old player immediately started playing Juventus. McKennie has appeared 31 times in all competitions, with a score of five goals and two assists.
Therefore, Juventus decided to activate the McKennie purchase clause, Wednesday (3/3/2021). Bianconeri paid 18.5 million euros in cash to Schalke, and bound McKennie on a permanent contract until the summer of 2025.
“Juventus Football Club has exercised the option rights for the definitive acquisition of Weston McKennie from Schalke 04 for a payment of 18.5 million, paid in three years,” reads an official Juventus statement.
Andrea Pirlo as the coach of Juventus, he appreciated the steps of his club which made McKennie permanent. He considered that the quality of his players was no longer in doubt.
Even so, Pirlo still reminded McKennie not to be complacent after receiving a permanent contract from Juventus. According to him, this is just the first step for McKennie to grow and develop in the future.
“McKennie does not surprise me. We have observed him and know him very well,” said Andrea Pirlo, reported from Football Italia.
