The Treasury and External Finance Department (DTFE) reported that local electricity production fell by 1.5% at the end of March 2023, against an increase of 4.1% a year earlier.
In its recent economic report, the DTFE explains that this development is due to the 6.3% decline in the production of renewable energies registered under Law 13-09, 7.7% in the production of the Office National Electricity and Drinking Water Authority (ONEE) and 0.3% of concession production.
For its part, the balance of energy exchanges stood at +454 Gwh against a negative balance of -53 Gwh, the result of the 527% increase in imports and 73% in exports. Thus, net energy demand recorded an increase of 3.5% at the end of March 2023 against 4.9% a year earlier.
In addition, electricity consumption increased by 4.4% after 2.5% a year earlier. This increase is due to improvements in very high voltage and high voltage electricity consumption (+22.1%), medium voltage electricity consumption (+4.4%), consumption of utilities (+3.1%) and residential consumption (+0.8%).
