EasyJet, victim of computer problems, had to cancel 200 flights on Thursday

Ascension weekend is a hectic one for many travelers who have opted for low-cost British airline easyJet. The latter was the victim, Thursday, May 26, of computer problems, which led her to cancel some 200 European flights, in particular to Nice or Lyon.

“We apologize to customers whose flights have been disrupted by our IT system issues, you can check your flight status here”, the company tweeted late Thursday.

EasyJet initially announced that flights scheduled to depart between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. would be cancelled, but later added that the disruption could continue despite the technical issue being resolved.

Many travelers have found themselves at the airport at the last moment with a canceled flight with no alternative. The company clarified that the latter could claim compensation “provided for in the regulations”.

EasyJet recently announced it is removing six seats from its A319s in the UK to limit its staffing needs in the face of flight attendant shortages which have already forced it to cancel hundreds of flights.

The company published in May a reduced net loss in the first half of its staggered financial year thanks to the resumption of post-lockdown air traffic, and is optimistic for the summer.
