“Eating one egg every day helps ○○ health”

Consuming one egg a day is good for heart health, study finds.

A research team at Peking University in China conducted the study based on the data of 4778 adults aged 30 to 79 registered with China Kadoorie Biobank. Of the participants, 3401 had cardiovascular disease.

The research team used nuclear magnetic resonance technology to measure 225 metabolites (substances required for metabolism) in participants’ blood samples. Of these metabolites, 24 were found to be associated with egg consumption.

The study found that those who ate moderate amounts of eggs had higher levels of good cholesterol, or high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The research team found that high HDL cholesterol levels help prevent heart attacks and strokes by removing LDL cholesterol, the bad cholesterol in the blood vessels.



They also found that participants who ate eggs in moderation had more heart-healthy and beneficial metabolites than participants who did not eat eggs.

Dr. Zhanqing Yu, who led the study, said, “This study shows that moderate egg consumption can help prevent heart disease. necessary,” he said.

The study was recently published in ‘eLife’, a non-profit journal publishing papers.
