While the Verzuz Battles are largely meant to be healthy competition in the name of good entertainment, this recent match between Gucci Mane and Jeezy is overshadowed by a looming and tumultuous story. Although the two Atlanta trap innovators initially met as collaborators on Gucci Mane’s 2005 single “Icy” from Trap House, they eventually found themselves entangled in a heated beef, which found brutal leads traded and worse .. In no time years had passed and animosity showed no signs of abating – that is, not until recently.
With the battle set to unfold next Thursday, Gucci and Jeezy have already entered into a trashy pre-game chat. And while some are cautiously optimistic that this opportunity will provide room for personal growth between former enemies, others fear that tensions will increase as old wounds erupt. Either way, it’s sure to be a passionate slant, one that feels destined to attract more viewers than ever before, no matter how things turn out.
Yet beyond the sordid backstory lies an undeniable truth. The two sides have since assembled legendary discographies, with Gucci and Jeezy having fourteen and soon to be ten studio albums respectively. And that doesn’t even take into account the myriad of mixtapes and compilation albums, both of which will likely be featured in every rapper’s setlist .. With that in mind, we’re curious as to who the HNHH community thinks will emerge victorious. Of course, Verzuz winners tend to be rather subjective, although seeing a clear narrative emerge on social media would certainly help validate one part over the other.
In one corner is Jeezy, on the eve of his tenth studio album The Recession 2. In the other, Gucci Mane, Santa Claus from Eastern Atlanta himself, ready for another fruitful holiday season. Who do you think will emerge victorious when the dust settles and viewers unleash a collective exhale of relief?
