Economy – Geneva underestimates its life sciences sector

The field, at the forefront at the international level, is still unknown. A study portrays it.

The sector employs more than 6,000 people in Geneva in nearly 500 establishments and generates an added value of one billion francs.

Geneva, at the heart of the life sciences? The expression is not overused if we are to believe the latest study commissioned by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIG) and the Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE). This fifty-page document provides a portrait of this multifaceted activity sector and identifies its strengths and weaknesses. It was presented to the press on Thursday morning.

Why take an interest in this subject? “We wanted to highlight a sector that is very little known but which constitutes a very important center of excellence for Geneva and of which we can be proud,” explains Virginie Fauveau, member of the BCGE management and head of the Business division. When you’re strong, you have to let it be known. ”
