He imposed a total prison sentence of 21 months the Autoforo Single Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki in an 85 year old who attacked his wife and son and threatened to kill them with a kitchen knife.
The elderly man was found guilty of all six acts he was accused of, among others for domestic violencethreat and insult, with the court recognizing him as the mitigating factor of impaired capacity and deciding to convert his sentence to ten euros per day.
According to his son’s testimony in court, it all happened last Tuesday night when the 85-year-old rushed at him and his mother with a knife, in the presence of the housekeeper who takes care of the elderly woman.
“I was scared because it wasn’t the first time it happened. He threatened to kill us even if he went to jail. He hit me, shouted and cursed. I was trying to keep my distance so he wouldn’t find me with the knife,” the son testified, adding that the 85-year-old took in his hands a crowbar that he had hidden in the house and attacked them with it as well. “My mother stepped in at the beginning to stop him,” he emphasized.
It is noted that the 85-year-old did not appear in court to apologize as, as it became known, in the previous days he was taken by the police to a psychiatric clinic of a public hospital in Thessaloniki.
