Elfyn Evans consolidates as leader

Elfyn Evans (Toyota Yaris), is the comfortable leader of the 72nd Rally of Finland, after dominating the second stage, in which he won eight of the nine stages run and achieved an advantage of 32s1/10 over Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) with missing with four stages to go and in which the leader will seek to add his second victory in the home Rally.

Evans, who arrived at the Nordic test with few expectations, has seen his claim to continue in the race for the championship consolidate, after the withdrawal of the championship leader, Kalle Rovanpera (Toyota Yaris), who rolled and abandoned after the initial stage.

Elfyn was able to make a profit on Saturday morning, taking advantage of better grip on roads wet by rain, on Belgian Neuville’s Hyundai which, with more slippage in the sections, was losing valuable seconds compared to the lead.

The Japanese Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota Yaris), who won the only stage that did not see Evans win, consolidated himself in third place almost a minute and a half behind the lead.

The bid for the top is Oliver Solberg (Skoda Fabia) with an advantage of 15s5/10 over Sami Pajari (Skoda Fabia).

The final stage of the Rally of Finland will have two sections to cover in a double pass to cover the 61.64 kilometers of the stage, which will define the ninth date of the championship.
