Ukraine has found a new ally who wants to give the country uninterrupted internet access. Tesla and SpaceX entrepreneur Elon Musk (50), the richest person in the world, activated Starlink Internet access over Ukraine on Sunday night.
Just ten hours earlier, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation asked the SpaceX CEO for Starlink internet. Instead of colonizing Mars, Musk should give Ukraine Starlink Internet, according to Minister Mykhailo Fedorov (31). Musk replied on Twitter early Sunday Ukrainian time: “The Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals on the way.”
«Danke Elon Musk!»
Young Minister Fedorov was the first to thank Musk: “Thank you Elon Musk, and thank you to everyone who supports Ukraine!”
Starlink is a satellite network operated by Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX that will one day provide internet access anywhere in the world. Starlink access in Ukraine means people can continue to use the internet even as Russian troops damage the country’s lines of communication.
SpaceX also recently helped Tonga connect to the Starlink internet after a volcanic eruption severed the island nation’s fiber optic cable and disrupted communications. (kes)
