Sharjah, September 24 / WAM / His Excellency Luis Alfonso de Alba, Ambassador of the United States of Mexico to the UAE, affirmed that the Emirate of Sharjah, through its remarkable efforts in serving culture at the local and regional levels, has reached a prominent position on the map of major cultural cities in the world, whether through its external participation or through hosting publishers and creators at the Sharjah International Book Fair.

This came during the meeting that brought together His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, with the Mexican ambassador at the authority’s headquarters in Sharjah. Cultural relations between countries of the world and as the best representative of Emirati and Arab culture in front of publishing makers, writers and readers in the Latin continent.

The two sides also reviewed the prospects for cultural cooperation between the Sharjah Book Authority and institutions concerned with the book industry in Mexico to exchange experiences and expand the translation and publishing movement between the Arab cultural scene and its Latin counterpart.

The Mexican ambassador to the country stressed that Sharjah’s expected participation in the next edition of the “Mexico International Book Fair” represents an opportunity for the exhibition’s audience and guests from the Americas to learn about the culture of the UAE and the Arab region and examples of its contemporary literature.

Al-Amiri also met at the headquarters of the authority, His Excellency Robin Salles, coordinator of public, economic and cultural diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Relations in the Republic of Costa Rica, and His Excellency Francisco Chacón Hernandez, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the country, where they discussed joint work opportunities with counterpart institutions in Costa Rica to expand the participation of writers and publishers on both sides in international events. Which will be held in Sharjah and Costa Rica, in addition to discussing the possibility of the authority’s participation in the “Costa Rica International Book Fair” and strengthening the areas of promoting cultural relations between the emirate and the cities of the Republic, especially in the field of publishing industry, library management, organizing major cultural events and managing knowledge sources.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri stressed that the Emirate of Sharjah has become a center for the Arab cultural movement and a link from which the civilizations and countries of the world look at the historical and current experience of the Emirati and Arab knowledge progress.. He pointed out that this is the fruits of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Which always emphasizes that culture is the most solid foundation upon which nations and peoples can build their bonds.

He said: We at the Sharjah Book Authority are betting on the cultural common that unites nations, weaves their values, and stirs the passion of their societies to benefit from cultural exchange. distinct in its indigenous cultures.

The guests toured the authority’s building and facilities and were briefed on its departments, projects, events, exhibitions, festivals and publishers’ forums that it organizes and the mechanisms it provides to literary agents for exchanging rights to purchase and document rights through the Sharjah International Agency for Literary Rights.

The Coordinator of Public, Economic and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Costa Rica expressed his happiness to visit the headquarters of the Sharjah Book Authority and learn about its departments and activities, and stressed that the cultural institutions in Costa Rica are looking forward to strengthening joint work with Sharjah, especially in the field of organizing exhibitions and cultural exchange and benefiting from experiences and expertise in The field of book industry development, exchange of purchase and documentation of translation copyrights.
