Last Saturday, family and friends said goodbye in an emotional funeral to Mariely Beatriz Chacón Marroquín, woman who died in a shipwreck. Police found her two children hugging her after she sacrificed her life to save them.
The ceremony was broadcast live so that relatives and people in general could virtually accompany the honors of the woman who died in a shipwreck, from where her two children and nanny were rescued.
More than a week ago, the boat in which they were traveling was lost and after a search work, the children were found while hugging the inert body of their mother.
One of the women who was traveling was also rescued alive. The images released by Venezuelan media showed that she was inside an empty ice box, while the two minors were clinging to their mother’s corpse in a lifeboat.
Mariely Chacón would have died due to dehydration caused by the time they found themselves adrift.
A report from the El Pitazo portal highlights that the cause of the woman’s death was electrolyte shock due to severe dehydration, possibly accelerated by the fact of breastfeeding her children.
The family Camblor-Chacón He set sail in a boat from the Spa City, in Higuerote, with the aim of reaching La Tortuga. However, the boat broke in two after being hit by a wave.
It transpired that there was eight people on board: four members of the same family and four other unrelated people. Authorities continue to carry out rescue efforts to find the missing.
Relatives and authorities continue their search to find Vianney Dos Santos, José Marcano, Alejandro Osorio and Remis Camblor, captain and father of the children, as well as Juan Suárez, who is presumed that he was also in the lacha, as confirmed by his father Ángel Suárez, in an interview with Venezuelan media.
“There is talk of four people who have yet to be rescued, when in reality it is not like that. Five people are missing: four men and one woman. The crew member who is missing is the one who does not appear on the list and is my son. His name is Juan Manuel Suárez Torres and he does not appear on the list, ”he said.
On the other hand, Emily Dos Santos, twin sister of Vianney, one of the disappeared, released a video on Thursday, September 9, in which she affirms that she does not lose hope of finding them all alive.

Men improvised rafts to save women and children
According to the babysitter’s story Veronica Martinez, 25 years old, the sports boat was traveling in the opposite direction to the waves and apparently there was a rupture of the ship, which “would have split in two” and caused the boat to sink in moments, the same day that they sailed from Higuerote.
One of the theories about how the crew members managed to escape in the eventuality is that the men improvised rafts to protect the women and children on board. “The men decided at one point to leave them afloat among the cellars and a very small raft, and they began to swim the crusade to try to seek help,” published the Venezuelan journalist.
