English couple split after receiving Ukrainian refugee

Tony Barnett, father of two children, left Lorna, his partner, just ten days after Sofiia arrived at their home.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for almost three months, and millions of Ukrainians have left the country in search of a calmer daily life for their lives.

That is the case of Sofia Karkadym, 22, who fled the city of Lviv at the start of the conflict. To her luck, she was taken in by an English couple in Bradford, England. Nevertheless, his arrival changed that home forever.

Tony Garnett29 years old and his wife Lorna28, lived in a house with their two children and, as stated in his story The Sun, he decided to offer himself to sponsor Ukrainian refugees in a Facebook group.

This is how Soffia came into the life of the couple, who experienced a sudden change just 10 days later: Tony decided to leave with the Ukrainian.

“As soon as I saw it I liked it, and this is our love story. I know that people will think badly of me, but these are things that happen. I could see how unhappy Tony was,” she said.

Tony assured that everything “It started with a simple desire of mine to do the right thing and put a roof over the head of someone in need, a man or a woman.

“I wanted to do the right thing and she happened to be the first person to contact after I joined the Facebook groups for people willing to host refugees,” he added.

His arrival, the beginning of the end for the couple

When Sofia started living with Lorna and Tony, the couple changed their routine. “It came to a head when a few days ago she really went for Sofia, yelling at her, using harsh language that left her in tears. He said he didn’t feel like he could stay under our roof anymore and something inside me clicked,” Tony explained.

Lorna would have been exhausted to see how her partner and the Ukrainian shared for hours, they went to the gym together and met in a parking lot to talkpoint from the middle.

“We are sorry for the pain we have caused, but I have discovered a connection with Sofia like never before. We are planning the rest of our lives together,” Garnett said.

As if that were not enough, the man speaks Slovak, which is not very different from Ukrainian, so he was able to engage in dialogue with Sofiia without Lorna being able to understandwhich annoyed the woman.

Following Lorna’s demand to kick Sofiia out of the house, Tony assured: “I told Lorna: ‘If she leaves, I leave‘. We both packed our bags and moved to my mom and dad’s house together.”

Finally, Lorna stayed in the house they both lived in. along with his two children.
