COP31, the 31st United Nations Conference on Climate Change, could be held in Geneva. This is at least the wish of the city authorities and the ecological administrative councilor Alfonso Gomez for whom the City of Calvin is perfectly equipped to host such an event. The COPs are held every year and bring together some 30,000 specialists in climate-related issues for two weeks.

According to RTS, the City still has to discuss the matter with the Canton, then inform the Confederation of its wishes. The evaluation of the Swiss and Geneva candidacies will lead to a decision during the autumn. But voices are already opposed to holding the event face-to-face, considering it more logical that it be held by videoconference.
