Epidemiologists Ask the Government to Quickly Respond to Prevent B117 Virus Mutations

JAKARTA, investor.id – University of Indonesia (UI) epidemiologist, Tri Yunis Miko Wahyono, said that the entry of the B117 virus into Indonesia must be responded quickly by the government. In this case, a case investigation should be carried out, even though the patient has recovered.

“So you can elaborate when he is infected and make sure that during this time, the infection does not spread to other people. If you don’t spread it to other people, it’s safe, ”said Tri to Beritasatu.com, Saturday (6/3/2021).

He said, it needs to be handled quickly because B117 has a very fast transmission power, which is 10 times the current Covid-19 virus. With this very fast transmission, continued Tri, the incidence of being infected with Covid-19 could be 10 times higher.

“In the area of infection with the new Covid-19 variant, in my opinion, it must be believed that there is no transmission, because if there is, the vaccine’s efficacy will decrease because the incidence will increase,” he said.

Previously, Spokesperson for Covid-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health (Kemkes) Siti Nadia Tarmizi also said that the mutation of the B117 virus from the UK is the type of RNA virus or ribonucleic acid which naturally mutates easily and several studies in other countries show this new virus variant is more rapidly transmitted.

“Until now, we have not obtained scientific evidence that this mutated Covid-19 virus has a higher malignancy than the original Covid-19 virus, but studies in other countries show that this new variant of the virus is more infectious,” said Nadia.
