Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir again revealed the collaboration of state-owned companies in forming a giant electric car battery (EV battery) company in Indonesia. Three BUMNs will partner with companies from abroad to build the factory.
The three BUMNs are PT PLN (Persero), PT Inalum (Persero) and PT Pertamina (Persero). The three BUMNs will collaborate through LG Energy Solution and Contemporary Amperex Technology or CATL. This project will also involve a subsidiary of MIND ID or Inalum, namely PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM).
“There is an EV battery. How policy the government so that it can be a producer in addition to being a market, one of which can be maintained is nickel. Do not want to send raw material abroad. We are entrusted that PLN, Inalum, Pertamina will make a national battery company partner with CATL and LG, “said Erick during his presentation at the CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook Event, Thursday (25/2/2021).
In addition, said Erick, commodities are also Indonesia’s strength and their prices are currently increasing. The rising commodity prices include coal, palm oil, rubber and cacao.
“Do not let this commodity be released as usual. Value added must be increased, exports are encouraged. Balance export and downstream, so that when the commodity does not side with us, we can feel the added value, “said Erick.
Previously, the Ministry of BUMN was in the middle of establishing Indonesia Battery Holding (IBH) to manage the integrated battery industry from upstream to downstream.
The holding company, which consists of four state-owned companies, including MIND ID or Inalum, Aneka Tambang, Pertamina and PLN, is targeted to be formed in Semester 1 2021.
This was conveyed by Deputy Minister I of BUMN Pahala Nugraha Mansury. “We hope the formation of IBH can be formed in Semester 1 this year. There have been discussions on the four business entities, there has also been an initial discussion with potential partners, the timeline for Semester 1 this year,” he said in ‘BUMN Media Talk, EV Battery: The Future Indonesian Economy ‘online, Tuesday (02/02/2021).
