On Saturday May 29, at the Ghani Yalouz sports center in Besançon, the ESBF handball players did not disappoint their audience: victory against the Chambray Touraine team and third place in the season in the women’s handball league. A nice farewell gift to their coach, Raphaëlle Tervel.
It was the last game as a coach for Raphaëlle Tervel. And what a match! The players of l’ESBF ended the season of the women’s handball league on a high note. They offer themselves a victory at home (26 to 25) against the team of Chambray Touraine. A victory synonymous with third place in the women’s handball league, behind the Brest and Metz teams.
Raphaëlle Tervel finished this last ESBF match as a player, in the middle of her team: she entered the field during the last minutes of the match.
The best thing is to finish this incredible adventure on the podium, with a victory, in front of our audience, it’s a bit of a dream evening!

The farewell of Raphaëlle Tervel
Native of Haut-Doubs, the club’s coach announced in August 2020 that she would leave her post at the end of the season.
The decision had been a huge surprise for the team: a few months earlier, Raphaëlle Tervel had signed to extend her contract until June 2022.
She then confided, at the microphone of France 3 Franche-Comté:

Raphaëlle Tervel also shared her dream of coaching the France team in the more or less distant future: “I have always said that the France team was something that interested me in the long term and that has not changed”
Before starting a coaching career, Raphaëlle Tervel was one of the most successful handball players in France. She had notably won the world championships, with the France team, in 2003.
