Esteban Ocon “Disappointed by F1 legend Alonso’s unnecessary criticism”[F1-Gate.com]

Esteban Ocon will forever see Fernando Alonso as one of Formula 1’s legends, but he regrets the acrimonious end of their relationship at the Alpine F1 team.

During his two years as a teammate at the Alpine F1 Team, Esteban Ocon never hesitated to go wheel-to-wheel with Fernando Alonso.

But there have been some moments of danger and closeness between the two drivers this season. The battle in Jeddah in March, for example, sent the Alpine F1 Team’s pitwall heart rate soaring.

And Fernando Alonso has lashed out at Esteban Ocon after two separate collisions in the Brazilian sprint earlier this month ruined both drivers’ races.

Fernando Alonso has set his sights on his Alpine F1 Team teammate, stating, “The contact with my teammate is far from ideal, but with Ocon it’s been like that all year round.”

Fernando Alonso, who has decided to transfer in 2023, added, “It’s finally over with one more race.”

However, the Brazilian stewards disagreed with Fernando Alonso’s view and gave him a five-second penalty for colliding with Esteban Ocon on the main straight.

The two drivers were reprimanded by the team and there was no direct discussion between the two, but the matter was resolved by the time they all regrouped in Abu Dhabi for the final race of the season.

However, Esteban Ocon admitted that he was disappointed with Fernando Alonso’s harsh reaction and criticism.

“It’s no secret that I was disappointed to see his comments after the race,” said Esteban Ocon at Yas Marina.

“Some of the criticism he made was unnecessary.”

“But I have a lot of respect for him. I will forever respect him for what he has done on the track over the years. He is a legend in the sport and that will change. No, but I was a little disappointed.”

Esteban Ocon finished 7th in the F1 Abu Dhabi GP, but Fernando Alonso retired after 27 laps due to a water leak problem. In the Drivers’ Championship, Ocon finished eighth with 11 more points than Alonso.
