It is a worrying end to the year for Ethiopia, a regional giant in East Africa and the second most populous country on the continent with 110 million inhabitants. On Thursday, a new hashtag appeared on local social networks: #MetekelMassacre. We discover photos of corpses and calls for “Put an end to the genocide in progress”. Cries of alarm following the massacre of more than 200 inhabitants, coldly murdered the day before in Bekuji Kebele, a locality part of the administrative area of Metekel, in the state of Benishangul-Gumuz, in the west of the Ethiopia.
