On the morning of February 22, the Office of the City People’s Committee. Hanoi, said the City People’s Committee has issued documents on enrollment in kindergartens, grades 1, 6 and 10 for the school year 2023-2024.
Accordingly, the Hanoi People’s Committee approved the policy as proposed by the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi previously submitted, in which the method of enrollment into class 10 of public non-specialized high schools in 2023 is implemented. – 2024 includes 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language (Candidates choose one of the languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean).
The city also requested the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to organize the entrance exam for grade 10 to ensure publicity, properly reflect the quality of teaching and learning, fight negativity, and avoid pressure on students.
Thus, for two consecutive years, this exam does not have a fourth subject. In previous years, the exam took place at the end of May or the beginning of June. Two exams in Math and Literature were written in the form of essays, and took 120 minutes each. For Foreign Languages, students take a multiple-choice test in 60 minutes.
The operating portal of the Hanoi People’s Committee previously held a survey to collect opinions from teachers to choose the option of taking 3 or 4 subjects to enroll in 10th grade of high school in the school year 2023 – 2024. In the above option, the survey form also has a section for teachers to give other opinions (if any).
In this regard, for the past few days, public opinion in Hanoi has been “hot” about whether it is necessary to take the fourth subject to enroll in 10th grade. Many education experts believe that taking up to 4 subjects is not appropriate in the context that the upper secondary level has changed in the direction of differentiation and electives.
